Gavalas Santorini Blue Assyrtiko

The Gavalas Santorini vintage of 2018 is a crisp and well matured volcanic, dry wine. In the glass it has a clear and pale lemon and straw-like colour, indicating that the wine has started its developing stage in terms of ageing. On the nose, the perfumed wine presents profound fruity aromas such as pear, lemon, pineapple and slightly banana. It is a little flinty, but will be soon covered by its dominating notes of nut and honey, which is another hint of its ageing development. On the palate it is crispy and refreshing. As one of the very few white wines that contains tannins, its tannins are rather smooth and rounded. This is also a full-bodied wine, with a moderate alcohol level and a long and nutty finish.

Given the volcanic terroir there is a high minerality that adds hints of flint and salt. Made from the first 25% of the pressed juice. A high quality classic Santorini Assyrtiko that has high aging potential!

Gavalas Winery: Gavalas family winery is one of the oldest wineries in Santorini. In the traditional village of Megalochori, the fourth generation of winemakers aims at highlighting the unique characteristics of Santorini’s terroir. The family-owned winery celebrates local varieties and only produces limited quantities of wine every year. Gavalas winery vinifies the most vibrant variety in Greece, Assyrtiko, as well as Aidani, Mandilaria and Mavrotragano. It is the only winery in Santorini that vinifies the indigenous rare varieties of Katsano and Voudomato.
