Discover the flavours of Crete!

Cretan Cuisine is known for its unique ingredients and flavours. According to nutritionists, the Cretan Diet is the Original Mediterranean Diet, considered one of the healthiest ways to eat in the world.

Lida, our resident chef and anthropologist, comes from Crete. She has prepared a cooking class based on the essentials of Cretan cuisine, and wonderful wine pairings to accompany your menu.

Cook with wild herbs, harvested from hills and mountains and learn how these have been used in dishes since the antiquity.

We will taste vegetables and greens gathered from hillsides and around the villages.

We will use cheeses made from goat’s and sheep’s milk like graviera and galomizithra.

You will learn more about and cook with raki, a pomace brandy distilled from grapes.

And, most importantly, we’ll learn how to prepare paper-thin phyllo pastry made with flour, olive oil, lemon and raki.

Suggested menu:

Cretan salad with carob rusks, dried figs & galomizithra
Mixed beans salad with beetroot
Marathopitakia (Wild fennel & spinach pastries )
Sfakiani pita ( galomizithra pies drizzled with thyme honey)
Selection of Cretan cheeses

The workshop will include tasting of two Cretan wines and rakomelo.

It is a menu guaranteed to transport you to Crete instantly, so come prepared for the journey!

The workshop includes learning basic cooking skills, tasting ingredients and participating in every step, from prepping ingredients to cooking and plating. You will leave with a selection of the recipes and a 10% discount voucher for Oliveology’s products. And at the end of the workshop we all sit around the table and share the food we’ve made!
