Olive leaf tea has been enjoyed by ancient civilisations in Greece for as long as olives have been cultivated. We are proud to be able to share this health giving drink. Not only has olive leaf tea a great flavour, but also detoxifying and healing properties. Olive leaves are exceptionally rich in vitamins A, B, C and E, and will give your body anti-viral, anti- bacterial and anti-fungal boost. Great for colds, flu and infections. These leaves are grown on our organic farm in Sparta, picked by hand and dried naturally to preserve their nutritional value. We only use tender young leaves and delicate spring buds.
Properties
Dried olive leaves have high levels of polyphenols, vitamin E and oleuropein, which are natural antioxidants. These act as free-radical scavengers, necessary to prevent disease and maintain well-being.
The antioxidant properties of the olive leaf can be transferred to human cells, to improve longevity and slow skin aging. The active compounds of the leaves have been shown to have anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and were traditionally used to help relieve fevers, and fight colds, flu and yeast infections. Olive leaves are good for the heart and have been shown to reduce cholesterol and lower blood pressure.
Their immune stimulating effects are believed to come from oleuropein, a natural compound unique to the olive tree, found in the olive fruit, leaves and flowers. Oleuropein has a powerful antioxidant activity and has been claimed to strengthen the immune system.
How to prepare our olive leaf tea?
Olive leaf tea is very simple to prepare and is refreshing served hot or cold. Try about half teaspoon in a pint of hot or cold water. The proportions may be varied to suit your taste. Leave to infuse for about 5-10 minutes. Add honey to taste for a sweeter brew.
